Guide

How Google ranks local results

Google says local results depend mainly on three things: relevance (how well your profile matches the search), distance (how far you are from the person searching) and prominence (how well known your business is, including reviews and links).

You can't change your distance from a customer, but you can make your profile complete, accurate and active, which helps relevance and prominence.

What the score checks

The questions cover the basics Google asks for (verification, categories, hours, contact details), the content customers look at (description, services, photos, posts) and your reputation (reviews and replies). Each answer is weighted by how much it affects what customers see and do.

It's a self-check, not an official Google score. Use it to find gaps, then fix them in order.

Questions

How often should I update my profile?

Add new photos and a post at least once a month, update your hours for holidays, and reply to every new review. Regular activity keeps your information accurate and gives customers a reason to choose you.

Is it allowed to ask for reviews?

Yes, you can ask customers for reviews. You can't offer anything in return or ask only happy customers, which goes against Google's policies.

Do I need a website for local SEO?

It helps. A website with a page for each service and location gives Google more to match against searches, and gives customers somewhere to book.
