Enter your export carton's size and weight. You'll see roughly how many cartons fit in each standard container, whether space or weight runs out first, and the total volume of your order.

Guide

How the estimate works

The calculator tries every way the carton can stand, fits as many full rows, columns and layers as the container's inside space allows, and takes the best result. It then checks the weight limit and shows whichever runs out first.

Real loads usually fit a little less than the theoretical number because of pallets, gaps, the loading method and the way cartons bulge. Treat the result as a planning figure and confirm the final load plan with your forwarder.

Container sizes used

Inside dimensions vary slightly between shipping lines. The calculator uses typical figures: 20ft 5.89 × 2.35 × 2.39 m, 40ft 12.03 × 2.35 × 2.39 m and 40ft high cube 12.03 × 2.35 × 2.69 m.

Weight limits also depend on the container and on road limits in your country, which can be lower than the container's own limit. Check with your forwarder before planning a heavy load.

When a full container makes sense

If your order fills less than about half a 20ft container, sharing a container (LCL) is often cheaper. Once you're close to a full 20ft, a full container (FCL) usually costs less per unit and is handled less. Ask for both quotes and compare them in the landed cost calculator.

Questions

What does 'this side up' change?

It stops the calculator turning the carton on its side, so only the two orientations that keep the top facing up are tried. Fewer cartons may fit.

What is CBM?

Cubic metres: length × width × height in metres. Freight for shared containers (LCL) is usually priced per CBM.

Can I mix different carton sizes?

This calculator handles one carton size at a time. For a mixed load, ask your forwarder for a load plan.
